Police Radar vs. Laser (LIDAR)

Radar uses a radio signal (wave) to determine the speed of a targeted object, such as a vehicle. The signal have different characteristics e.g. beam lengths and widths. The beam hits the target and reflects back to the radar device’s with a change in frequency and time, which is better known as the “Doppler Shift”.

Laser – LIDAR

Laser – LIDAR uses an infrared light, which is in the invisible end of the light spectrum. In the complete lidar / laser device may have different beam lengths, widths and pulses.

Accuracy of: Radar , Laser / Lidar

Each speed measuring device has inherent advantages, and disadvantages, but the key to accuracy is proper operation of the key device.
